A wooden building in Sonoma is burned by wildfire.

Resilience resources from ABAG, the Bay Conservation and Development Commission, the Metropolitan Transportation Commission, the San Francisco Estuary Partnership and the Bay Area Regional Collaborative help protect the Bay Area from the negative effects of earthquakes, floods, landslides and fires — as well as prepare for climate change hazards like sea level rise, extreme storms and drought. Resources from these agencies help cities and counties take an action-oriented approach toward assisting local communities with resilience planning and implementation.

Resilience is a community’s ability to withstand and rebound from a profound shock. In the Bay Area, where regional hazards range from earthquake shaking and fault rupture to extreme heat and sea level rise, resilience planning is critical to our ability to withstand, sustain and rebuild, preserving the unique cultural and economic character of Bay Area communities. Resilience planning can help the region bounce back stronger.
